"While it still undercuts many rivals, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is raising the cost of its halo model due to high demand. Prices for the 2014 Corvette have risen by $2,000 for both the coupe and convertible. The Z51 package is now a $4,000 option, an increase of $1,200. With the $995 destination charge, a base Corvette Stingray now runs buyers $53,995, and the drop top is now $58,995. "
What a douche move!

Oh no! The price increased all of less than 4% and it's still the best performance bargain on the market by a massive margin! Whatever will we do?!

Are you serious? They could raise the price by another $5k and it would still be a bargain. This is nothing.

If/when this goes on sale in AU, it'll be over $100k USD. Please stop complaining.

Then maybe they should have priced it properly in the first place. this is obviously gouging based on demand and no other metric (demand which will die down in 12 months one grannies are shopped out).
I believe that when you build a car to a price point, you should stick to that price point. If you want to price it higher, justify it some way other than "hey we can fuck our buyers out a little more money."
It's worth 55000 bucks, no matter what they're charging. Corvettes are nice cars for about 8 years. Then the GM car build quality kicks in and you realize half the panels are falling off and the bumper are warped by sunlight. Built to a price an it shows.
They should build more faster, sell more, and make money the right way, on volume.

true, but in the GTR you actually are getting better equipment. it's a hardware cost.

If demand is high enough that you're selling all your inventory as fast as you can and production is operating at peak capacity then you should raise prices. It's the basics of supply and demand. The idea that a company should stick to a single price point indefinitely regardless of demand is insane and idiotic. GM is a publicly traded company and they have an obligation to maximize revenue and profits for their shareholders.

Oh is that right? I actually don't know what improvements they've made. I assumed they upped the boost and improved the launch control/dynamic suspension. Basically software updates.

I'd rather see GM make more money on the cars than have all the gouging go to the dealers in the form of "market pricing adjustments" (a.k.a. "we're selling this car over sticker price because we can.")
I'm sure if/when demand dies down then they'll start piling on the incentives.

I'm too poor to really give a crap about prices over $10, 000, so I had no clue what this car cost new. I was guessing $60k, because it looks like a $60k sports car.

You don't work in the auto industry do you?
EDIT: To clarify...the context of pricing on cars is actually incredibly complex. And the Corvette is still a bargain.
